RAM:Scion Of Ikshvaku

Amish Tripathi

Mythological Fiction

Ayodhya's King Dashrath is defeated by Kuber's general Raavan in the war of Karchap & the very same time His first wife Kaushalya gives birth to their first son RAM.Dashrath blames Ram as the reason of his defeat & persecute him.Ram,with his 3 brothers, become a skilled warrior under Guru Vashisth. After returning to Ayodhya Ram is Given the job of maintaining law & police .One day, Guru Vishvamitra visits Ayodhya & take Ram & Laxman with him to stop Asura attacks on his ashram. Then they go to Mithila Where Ram & Laxman Get's Married to Sita & Urmila respectively.Ravan attacks Mithila with his 10,000 soldiers.Ram uses Aurastra to stop him & later decides to take 14 years exile because Asurastas use is forbidden.Thirteen year passses. The novel ends with Ram & Laxman returning from hunting & finding Slain Jatayu who tells them that Raavan has kidnapped Sita.

I thoroughly admire Amish's Imagination to represent the tale in a new light & refreshing fragrance which has been told several times from ages to ages.Author has treated every character like Human instead of giving them “Godly” & magical essence which is commendable.Book is fast paced so book nowhere feels annoying & overwhelming.

The book may produce instability to “kattar” RAMAYANAi people because the incidents don't occur the same way as told in Valmiki's & Tulsidas's version. So,if u can't bear Ram & Laxman eating meat,Raavan as a “trade controller”,Sita as a warrior & so on ,then u must stay away from reading this.If the book vibrates your “Aastha” then there's no point of reading .But if u can accept anything with open mind & most importantly an open heart then u will definitely enjoy this.
