Sochu

When plans are made to meet or hang out, the first thing that comes in our mind is “ busy schedule” and we have to adjust our schedules to take time for that. We’ve become so busy that we don’t get time to even enjoy our lives. Work is really important but it’s also important to take time for ourselves. We’ve forgotten the joy, the happiness, the innocence in us. Remember how we use to enjoy everyday of our school and college life? Remember how we had time to hang out, be crazy, and have a lot of fun? Remember how we use to laugh so hard? Remember how we enjoyed being a child? I do!
I realized this, when I was going through a book of children’s stories. One story that really shook me was: there was a little boy named “Sochu”. The story was, everybody asked Sochu, what he wants to become when he grows up? He thought and observed people and finally came to a conclusion that he wants to become a kid again when he grows up. Now this story is really simple and sweet but when I gave it a though I realized that it has a very deep meaning. I started observing myself and my surroundings. I literally felt that everybody is in a hurry, everybody has forgotten how to enjoy the moment. That story which is so basic, gave me chills and made me pause and think. It encouraged me to bring a change in my life and others. I realized that we should “Live for the moment like a child”.
There is another incident which I could relate to this one. I was in a coffee shop and there a poem competition going on. The participants were reciting beautiful poems written by them. They were almost the age of 19-24. I felt proud that our youth understands the serious matters like feminism and depression. And express them beautifully through their poems. They had the positive vision, although the topics were very serious. But I also had a second thought and felt that they were so young and were writing and dealing with such major matters. They were just adults and had started dealing with these kind of things. They had lost the child in them or the world has made them kill the child in them. They’ve become smart and wise. And maybe they didn’t choose to become like a kid again when they grow up like Sochu.
I miss that innocence in me and people around. I miss that live in the moment like a child. If I had a choice I would definitely go back to become a child and never grow up.
