Who is Better?
Today I'll be discussing about something that is very inherent and prevalent everywhere, and is the reason of dissatisfaction among people most of the time. You're correct, it is comparison that I would like to talk about.
This isn't the same things that you read about how comparison should be only with yourself and such recurrent ideas, but a personalized opinion about how we can overcome the consequences of comparison.
As it turns out, comparison is inherent in each of us as we are only human. We seek to learn from each other, and that is why we thrive on something called as 'society'. Wise men have been stressing on the fact that competing with ourself should be our ultimate goal. Apparently, that is not possible to accept without paying for a price: seclusion.
The thing is when we are compared with someone else who is better than us at something, we always feel inferior or underestimated. It is but natural. If my mother constantly keeps comparing me with my cousin or friend, I'll end up getting frustrated and angry. Nevertheless we need to understand that the underlying psychology behind this is that if someone else can do it why can't we? We keep saying be the best version of yourself, but after everything we still want to know the exam result of our best friend.
The most plausible solution that I like to abide by is quite simple. Now, I may not be an expert on this, but I find this way of looking at things more fruitful.
We have seen that as much as we try to stay away from comparison, without it we may also lose on a lot of knowledge and experience. Without comparison, we can never learn more than we know. Therefore being the best version of ourselves should be the ultimate goal, but learning from others should never stop.
In fact, we tend to convince ourselves of our superiority by comparing with someone below us. That is just one of the mind's deceptive games.
To conclude, learn to be your best and try to improve everytime. Try to learn from others without underestimating your accomplishments, but never stop progressing as it is the law of nature and is as vital as nature itself.
