A bindweed is in flower
longing for winkles of the stars Taka Goto
山の気を集めて磐の滴れり 五島高資
A brook on the rock —
the bracing mountain air come together Taka Goto
33. 山際へ灯の迫りてや夏の宵 五島高資
An evening in summer —
lights of buildings approach the mountains Taka Goto
窓を開け放つ櫓や梅雨晴間 五島高資
Sunny spell during the rainy season -
the windows of the turret are left open Taka Goto
夕焼けて雲の寄せたる八百重かな 五島高資
A sunset glow —
the waves of clouds are rolling up here
34. むらさきの八重旗雲や西日さす 五島高資
The setting sun —
banner clouds in layers have been
tinged with purple Taka Goto
夏草や城を守りて河流る 五島高資
Summer grasses —
the river is flowing just beside the castle Taka Goto
緑陰や白銀の宇津救命丸 五島高資
Shade of conifers —
the uzukyumei-gan is panacea
with silvery starlight Taka Goto
35. 天翔る大塔青葉祭かな 五島高資
The birthday of Kukai -
Konpon Daito is soaring into the sky Taka Goto
Kukai = Buddhist priest (shramana)
Konpon Daito = large pagoda, the root of the universe
赤らんで龍に見つかる実梅かな 五島高資
An ume reddened itself —
so the Nāga is on the point of finding it Taka Goto
夕映えの瞬く梅雨の雲間かな 五島高資
The sunset glow is fine
through the purple clouds of the rainy season
36. 梅天や七重塔灯りたる 五島高資
The sky of the rainy season -
the Seven-Storied Pagoda is lit up Taka Goto
水玉や蛍袋のなお点る 五島高資
The night dew —
every bellflower is still lit up
rather than out of bloom Taka Goto
古池の埋められて梅雨晴間かな 五島高資
Bright sky during the rainy season -
the old pond was already consumed by landfills Taka Goto
37. 六月の川へ小川の瞬けり 五島高資
A brook is blinking
and running into the river in June Taka Goto
緑蔭や南無大師遍照金剛 五島高資
In the leafy shade
I prayed, "Namu Daishi Henjo Kongo" Taka Goto
(Namu = namas. Daishi = an honorific title given to a Buddhist priest of high virtue. Henjo Kongo = the posthumous name of Kukai, who is a great dignitary of esoteric Buddhism)
ぬばたまの夕立雲となりにけり 五島高資
Nubatama —
mammatus after squalls are aglow
with the setting sun Taka Goto
38. 青龍の雲の尾つづく夕焼かな 五島高資
The evening glow —
an enormous cloud is rising
like a blue dragon Taka Goto
灯を映す川や夕焼雲の波 五島高資
Reflecting the lights —
the river flows under the waves of purple clouds Taka Goto
古峯の御簾にひらめく迦楼羅かな 高資
Furumine Shrine —
Garudas are flashing themselves
through the reed blind Taka Goto
39. 沈む日の氣吹き放つや夕焼雲 五島高資
The setting sun —
the orange clouds are blown away
御厨人窟や日に溯る青葉潮 五島高資
At Mikrodo —
the Japan Current is going up to the rising sun Taka Goto
木洩れ日に欠伸をしたり猿茸 五島高資
In the dappled sunlight,
the monkey mushroom is yawning Taka Goto
40. せせらぎに身はうつせみのあきつかな 高資
Murmuring of streams —
dragonfly has left his spirit
behind this world Taka Goto
心臓の鼓動をかえす銀河かな 五島高資
The heartbeat
going back to the Galaxy Taka Goto
まちがえている僕がいる春の河 五島高資
In front of a spring river —
