Emotional Intelligence: Meaning
Emotional Intelligence  is associated with an understanding of feelings of self ,control on the feelings of self ,understanding the feeling of others emphatically and managing relationships well so as to be successful,contented and happy in personal and professional relationships.

Be it home,society,office or any possible place we cannot survive in isolation.So as to carry on with people at home or coworkers at workplace it is important to understand self and emotions of others so as to make healthy,authentic relationships and to succeed in career goal.

Emotional Intelligence (also called Emotional Quotient)describes an ability to monitor your own emotions as well as the emotions of others,to distinguish between and label different emotions,correctly,and to use emotional information to guide your thinking and behavior and influence that of others(Coleman,1995;Mayer&Salovey,1990)


Examples of Emotional Intelligence


DECISION MAKING:Canyou make decisions for self or you wait for others to make decisions for you?
SELF AWARENESS: Do you feel low often and are not able to understand why are you feeling so?
CONFIDENCE IN SELF  :Do you know your skills and capabilities and able to use them well as per the situation
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT: Do you have healthy relationships with all coworkers at work place?
SELF EXPRESSION:Are you able to communicate your feelings well?
SELF CONTROL: Is your anger high and difficult to control or you can easily take over it?
RELATIONSHIPS: Do you know how to deal clients with different attitudes well?
EMPATHY:Are you able to step into the shoes of others and understand a situation in their perspective

These are a few examples of situations that give you an idea whether or not you are Emotionally Intelligent.There are many more that help us understand how balanced we are in mind and body to changing situations around and whether we react or respond to them?That what actually counts for a long term happiness in relations,career and life


Emotional Intelligence Pillars


There are four pillars of Emotional Intelligence .These are:-
SELF AWARENESS:Being aware of one's capabilities,skills,strengths&weakness is self awareness.It also includes confidence in one's own self.
SELF MANAGEMENT:To control one's feelings is an important sign of emotional maturity.To express them at appropriate time is further an additive advantage..
SOCIAL AWARENESS:Empathy to understand the feelings of others by stepping into their shoes is important.Organisational awareness and service orientation are also a part.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:To manage relations by innate warmth,influencing others powerfully and easily connecting with others is a part of relationship management.

How to  develop Emotional Intelligence?
Many people have an extrovert nature and a capacity to manage relations by innate warmth however most need to imbibe it.The Good news is it can be developed .We can retrain our minds to put new communication skills.Here are some of the ways:-

MEDITATION
Meditation is an excellent practice to develop self awareness to learn to control self and develop an empathy in relationships.We tend to become mindful and less judgmental with meditation .The result is a better focus on present,a strong control on emotions.

READING BOOKS

Reading books is similar to meditation. It inculcates a state of deep relaxation and calmness in mind.Regular reading removes depression ,makes one empathetic,mentally flexible,improves creativity,enhances brain creativity and function and releives one from insomnia.

PRACTICAL TECHNIQUES

Their are certain practical techniques which can be followed.These are :-

Respond don't react
Listen before you speak
Empathize
Communicate in an Assertive way

Manage your negative emotions
