મને વહાલ કર, એક સામાન્ય મનુષ્ય જાણીને

ન બંધિત કે અહંભાવી પ્રકારે

તું ચાહે તો મને ચાહજે, પણ થાય તો એમ કરજે

ન વિષાદગાન હોય એમાં

ન અગાધ પ્રેમના રસાતળમાં જજે

ન ચંચળ સહવાસની મુલાયમ લહેરખીઓ સમિપે

ન છલનાના દ્વાર પર રાખીશ મને

ન પુસ્તકોના શબ્દોથી ચૂમીશ મને

પૂનમના ચંદ્રનું રૂપક પણ ન જોઈએ

ન તો તારલાઓ સાથે મને સરખાવજે

ખીલતાં પુષ્પો સરીખી મને ના જાણજે

ઘેલો બની તું ના મને બહેકાવજે

અસ્ખલિત શબ્દોનો સ્વામી ના બનીશ

રત્નોથી પણ ના તું રીઝવજે મને

લખલૂટ હીરાની પણ વર્ષા ના કરીશ

બસ મને,

આપણાં એકરાગની હૂંફમાં વીંટાળજે

Or velvet zephyrs of windy fusion,

Nor place me on portals of illusion,

Nor kiss me with a book of quotations.

Don't compare me with full moon,

Or stars that shine too soon,

Or fragrant flowers that bloom,

No romantic gestures of buffoon.

Be not a poet of fluent words,

Don't make up with sapphires,

Or shower me with diamonds,

Just wrap me with caring choirs.
