Chapter2 Dreadful Date

Krish loved everything except study, like all other children of his age but he used to give thanks to the almighty God, if any, for His benevolence in keeping his parents indifferent about his study. His respect and belief on Him got increased day by day. He learnt all about god and his activities from his Granny, the wrinkled faced lady was his first love and friend too. Surprisingly she too didn’t take any offence for his running away from school.

The family cowshed adjacent to their farm house was his favourite play spot and his friends were Jaga, the junior cowboy and Bishu, the senior cowboy. He was fond of them and they too loved playing with him ignoring their duties like feeding cows, cleaning cowsheds and etc, etc...

They used to share their works secretly with their young Master, probably keeping the idea in mind that “An idle brain is devil’s workshop.” Anyway Krish was ready to remain grateful to them for ever for their kindness. He used to get ample fun and entertainment in feeding kids as he was made caretaker for goats and their siblings.

They used to share their food with Krish; all secretly as had that been noticed by any elder Masters, they might have taken offence and their friendship would cease to exist. All three of them used to get forbidden pleasure of their odd friendship.

One day Jaga brought some ripe dates from somewhere. Krish enjoyed them until ant crying point ; that means if an ant visited the abandoned seeds of dates, it would sure to cry for having been deprived of taste of the dates.

In the meantime Bishu announced that he was going to reproduce fire from his eyes while smoking bidi, a type of country cigarette. It was a golden opportunity for Krish to witness such magic. Forgetting all about the last date; the tiniest one that remained in his mouth till then, he rushed to Bishu along with Jaga and having been thoroughly amazed by the magic, he swallowed that seed.

Then the problem started. Forgetting all about magic and fire from Bishu’s eyes, the dreadful date entered into his head. He started pondering over the issue. Only hope was that it was too tiny to yield a new date plant in his stomach. From somewhere he learnt that plants and trees take their birth mostly from tiny seeds. He strongly felt that he committed a blunder. He became sad and gloom anticipating impending danger.

Having heard about the accident, Jaga immediately took him to one and only Bishu, the great, who instead of reducing his fear, started explaining all possible fearful consequences. Being frustrated, Krish earnestly requested him to save him at any cost but serious Bishu only nodded his head while Jaga rolled his eyes.

When the problem was brought before Chotu and Motu, his two elders, they laughed a lot and Chotu assured him to solve his problem immediately.

Chotu asked Krish, “Can you recite a rhyme for hundred and eight times?”

Krish was ready to do anything, thus he urged him to teach that rhyme. The rhyme was as following:

“Sweet date, sweet date

Go to bed go to bed.

Don’t sprout or grow

The rest you will know”

Having uttered the rhyme for hundred and eight times, Krish saved himself from that deadly date.
