Summary

"The Apple" is a tale about a student who is offered the genuine fruit of the Tree of Knowledge from the Garden of Eden, by a stranger with piercing eyes. The story of how the stranger came to have the fruit is almost as weird as the tale of what the student then did with the fruit.

Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946) was an English writer. Prolific in many genres, he wrote dozens of novels, short stories, and works of social commentary, history, satire, biography and autobiography. His work also included two books on recreational war games.
