Edgar Rice Burroughs was the Man Who Created Tarzan. He was an American writer best known for his prolific output in the adventure, science fiction, and fantasy genres. His most famous creation Tarzan has been enjoyed by generations of readers around the world. Burroughs was born in Chicago in 1875. He had a restless childhood and spent much of his time exploring the outdoors. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Spanish-American War.
